China's homegrown wireless standard, WAPI (Wireless LAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure), recently won the acknowledgement of the ISO (International Standards Organization). Along with IEEE 802.11i, WAPI will be included within ISI/IEC JTC1 SC6, and will be put on the agenda of the February 2005 SC 6 WG1 meeting.

 

Some reports attribute the success of the bid to the efforts of the Chinese delegation, which able to convince the US side to issue a statement that WAPI and 802.11i can be simultaneously deployed.
